(The Sphinx -1979) After the year 1975 the Government authorities did not allow the Summer camp of the Brotherhood on Rila. Then the youth group within the Brotherhood, led by Krum Vajarov, had its Summer camp in secret in the area of Mussala, at the foot of the famous rock The Sphinx.
The Sphinx
The group, consisting of about twenty people, followed the well established practices in the Brotherhood: meeting the Sunrise, performing the sacred dance Paneurhythmy, excursions and meditative walks in the mountain, evening prayers, spiritual learning, discourse and reading.
Every morning we had to get up at 5.00 and start our 45-60 minute climb to the Sphinx. From there we contemplated an exquisite panorama of this part of Rila and the Sunrises were magnificent. Almost every Sunrise was an event in our spiritual journey.
Because the communist system in Bulgaria did not allow freedom to practice spirituality, especially for young people, we perceived ourselves as a small secret community performing its spiritual rituals in mystery and sacredness, hidden from the world.
One morning, when we were meeting a magnificent Sunrise, I linked mystically with the Sun, the Solar Logos and the Cosmic Christ. My previous vision of Christ appeared again before my inner spiritual eyes and I felt the whole of Creation lit by His Light. Then within this light I saw a small group of people from the past. I recognised this group as one of the early Christian communities living immediately after the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. They were contemplating in great awe, love, devotion and passion the image of Christ and spoke emotionally between themselves: Oh, Lord Jesus Christ, you came – the Light of the World, the Son of God, the Saviour, the essence of Creation ─ and the people did not recognised you! For you in the Gospel it is said: “Get the road ready for the Lord; make a straight path for him to travel!” (Mark 1:2) But they were not ready and missed the greatest event in their lives. What a tragedy! What shall we do now? How shall we reveal this great mystery to the world?
The mystical contact with this devoted Christian community continued for some time and reminded me on our own situation. In the first half of the XX century the Spirit of Christ was personified again in the World Teacher Beinsa Douno but a similar situation occurred: He came among the Bulgarian people to bring a new spiritual Impulse for the whole world but only a few disciples recognised him. We, around the year 1979, like this first Christian Community, appreciated the mystery, the power and the glory of the World Teacher Beinsa Douno and wondered how to convey his Divine Teaching to the world.
Soon after meeting the Sunrise we descended to the camp but the passionate feelings and thoughts remained: in our epoch the World Teacher Beinsa Douno manifested the Spirit of Christ again and we have to do everything for the successful spreading of his Teaching and Cause!
