The Sacred Mountain Rila
Introduction
The Mythological Summit Mussala Mussala (2,925 metres) is the highest summit on Rila, in Bulgaria and in the Balkan Peninsula. In translation Mussala means Close to God and it is not by chance that the Summit and all the surrounding area played an important part in the Spiritual School of the Master Beinsa Douno. In 1922 at the foot of Mussala the Master established the first Summer Camp of the Brotherhood. Later on the Brotherhood moved to the area of the Seven Lakes but the Master, with a small circle of disciples visited Mussala every year. The Master Beinsa Douno spoke about Mussala from many different perspectives. He also composed an inspiring and uplifting song consecrated to Mussala: Åäèí ñè òè, ìîé Ìóñàëà, ñâåùåíî ìÿñòî, Áîæè âðúõ.
Mussala In the Spiritual School of the Master Beinsa Douno Mussala became a symbol of the Path of the Disciple. As part of the spiritual journey of the disciples, the Master gave a special spiritual task to climb Mussala several times - in Summer and Winter, during the day and during the night, alone and with a group. The purpose of this task was to attain the special qualities and experiences which come with each climbing task. I was blessed to have many climbs on Mussala – in Summer and in Winter, alone and with a group, during the day or in the early hours of the morning (for meeting the Sunrise). Each one of these climbs was an unforgettable and unique ‘adventure’ with deep spiritual experiences and existential consequences. In truth, I could write a whole book about them as an important part of my spiritual journey. Here however I will mention only one of my climbs, which for me elevated Mussala as the top of the mythological Sacred Mountain. In the Winter of 1975 I ascended to Mussala alone. Climbing to the Summit around 3.00pm, I felt at one with Nature, with the Elements and I enjoyed the challenges of the mountain covered in snow (actually the last 500-600 metres to the Summit are quite steep and are accessible only by holding on to an iron rope). On the Summit I visited the Cosmic Station and the people there were very surprised to see somebody at this late time in the afternoon on Mussala. They offered me warm hospitality and invited me to sleep in the Station. That time I declined their offer but we established a good friendly relationship and I availed of their offer later. I ascended again to Mussala and I spent a few days with them in joyful friendly relationship. During my visit I was able to meet majestic Sunrises, to contemplate extraordinary Sunsets and to have meditative walks in the area. It was really an unforgettable time and I am very thankful to my friends for this opportunity. The panorama from Mussala is beyond description! It is hard to imagine a more spectacular, majestic and pristine view. One could spend hours upon hours in contemplation of the beauty, the power and the magic of the views in all directions from Mussala. Moreover, because Mussala has never been under water it still keeps the mystical vibrations from the ‘beginning of time on Earth’ (similar to the initial radiation from the Big Bang still remaining in the Universe). The views from Mussala are always spectacular and powerful but nothing could be compared with meeting the Sunrise on a sunny morning. At dawn and at the time of Sunrise the panorama from Mussala becomes like a mythological picture from the top of the Sacred Mountain. This was exactly what I experienced during these days on Mussala. When I went outside to meet the Sunrise, I was stunned and amazed by the metaphysical reality surrounding Mussala. The majestic range of mountains remained in deep silence, great secrecy and unknown expectation. The darkness of the night gradually began to disperse and tender light started to envelop the whole area. The power, the sacredness and the magic of the moment were extraordinary – I felt that I was witnessing not only the beginning of a new Divine day, but even the mystery of Genesis described in the Bible: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Such a deep mystical vision, full of mythological demiurgic meaning, I felt for the first time. Speechless, in awe and excitement, I awaited the coming of the Light, the First Ray from the Sun, in order to experience mystically the act of God creating the Light: And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good and He separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning - the first day. The first rays of the Sun were like enlightenment into the mystery of God and Creation coming into existence. They marked both the beginning of a new Divine Day and the mystery of the re-creation of the world. Sunrise from Mussala - Pepa Girginova The magic of Genesis continued and I mystically experienced the Second Divine Day in the creation of the world: And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water." So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day. And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so. God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good. As the Sun was rising slowly above the horizon the secret of the “sky” and the “earth” began to reveal their mystery: the “sky” was the living Cosmos with the Sun as the Solar Logos radiating Light, Warmth, Life energy, Love, Wisdom and Truth, while the “Earth” became our beautiful planet Earth with all Kingdoms of Life on it. When the Sun rose and illumined first the higher summits and later the environs, the whole area appeared as a Temple lit by the Light of God. For me the words of the Master about the area of Mussala became an inspiring reality: This is the sanctuary of Rila; the summit Mussala is the dome of Rila; the sanctuary is a triangle formed by Lake Okoto, Maritza Lakes and Mussala Summit. The sanctuary embraces all this area from Lake Okoto to Maritza Lakes. Because I was in a deep meditative and elevated spiritual state this Temple became a part of the metaphysical Temple above the Earth, which itself was part of the whole of Creation as a Temple of the Living God. Meeting the Sunrise for me became a Divine service in the Temple of God, a service appreciating the ultimate essence of God and the sacredness of life. Then, in a most natural and harmonic way, all good people on Earth, all beings from the spiritual world and from the highest Divine world entered into the Temple. With great enthusiasm and inspiration I appreciated the deep meaning of the task, given by the Master: When you come to Mussala your task is to link with all good people who wish for the well-being of humankind. Then you have to link with all beings from the spiritual world and from the Divine World who are working for the elevation of humankind. When you link with the good people in the physical world, with the intelligent and the high beings from the spiritual and the divine worlds, you will begin to think and work as them. Thus you will become channels of divine blessings. From the depths of my heart I wished to become a channel of Divine blessings so that the Peace of God and the Blessings of God could encompass the whole Earth. My Sunrise prayer-ceremony continued with passionate prayers, spiritual formulas and songs. Full of emotion and inspiration I had the feeling of humankind as one great spiritual family living on a sacred planet and directly connected with God. Then the whole vertical structure of the Universe, the Axis Mundi of human consciousness, was restored and we appeared as cosmic-spiritual beings standing on Earth and embracing the whole of Creation. The magical words of the Master became a reality: When the human being is connected with the good beings in the three worlds – the physical, the spiritual and the Divine, he/she becomes a magician. It is enough then to wave the magic wand and to achieve everything that he likes. As the mist moves gradually and reveals the horizon, so the magician opens and closes the secret gates of Nature.” (The Master Beinsa Douno) At this stage in my morning prayer-meditation meeting the Sunrise the Path of the Disciple became the Path of the Initiate. During my visit to the friends on the Cosmic Station I met unforgettable Sunrises from Mussala. Each one of them was different, but all of them were like symphonies of living light, colour, beauty, harmony of the spheres and sacred thought forms in the mind of God. They were the Divine Music of Creation where every Sunrise brings unique creative impulses for the Day, but altogether they are a part of the eternal Breath of God. The contemplation of Sunrises from Mussala added a new, planetary, dimension to my appreciation of the Earth. For the first time I had the feeling that was on the “top of the world” and I saw the Earth as a living Cosmic Being moving gently in the vast cosmic-spiritual sea. At some stage during the days in the Cosmic Station the visibility was so great and the space was so transparent that I had the feeling that I was seeing the Mount Olympus massif in the far distance. In my prayers and meditations I tried to link with Mount Olympus and with other Sacred Mountains on Earth. Not long after my trip to Mussala this opportunity occurred; I went to Italy and linked directly with Mont Blanc in the Alps. From there I linked metaphysically again with Mussala and Rila but in a different capacity - as a ‘spiritual ambassador’ from Rila. My journey to Italy and the Alps was an important existential story and I will allow myself to share a few details from it. In relation to the research programme "The Main Tendencies in the Development of Human Culture until the Year 2000" I was sent on a study tour to Russia for a month (May-June 1975) and to Italy (November-December 1975). Formally, the trips to Russia and to Italy were related to gathering information for the theme, but informally, the first was connected with the spreading of the Teaching and the Cause of the Master Beinsa Douno (a continuation of the work from the previous years), while the second trip had a special purpose. The moment I entered Rome I felt that I had previous incarnations in Italy (this however is a different theme for sharing). Towards the end of my stay in Italy, after many quite unusual co-incidences, I found myself, with two French friends, travelling on the train towards Mont Blanc. The weather was wet in the Valley d'Aosta and the Alps were covered in mist. I travelled in this part of the world for the first time and I did not know the area at all. At some stage, to my great surprise, I saw a magnificent Summit appearing from the mist and lit by the sunshine. This Summit was like a symbol of a spiritual initiation, a Summit in the spiritual Himalayas. The rain stopped, the mist started to clear and in a dynamic, playful way the Summits began to appear and disappear forming a most wonderful panorama. The next day I said goodbye to my French friends and I took the mountain lift to a destination close to Mont Blanc. The day was very sunny, relatively warm and the view of the whole Alps range was magnificent. There at a high point in the Alps (on a terrace on the roof of the lift station) I entered into deep prayer and meditation. The Alps massif was lit by sunshine and started vibrating "ethereally". Gradually I began to realise that I was in a magnificent metaphysical space of the Great Universal Brotherhood above the Alps. The vision was breathtaking and I felt great warmth, hospitality, interest and support, radiating from the Light Beings assembled there. After a few moments I began to understand that they actually greeted me as a person coming from another glorious metaphysical centre, much older than theirs and holding very important spiritual teachings – the Sacred Mountain of Rila. They appreciated the Divine work of the Master Beinsa Douno, who developed glorious new mysteries for the coming new epoch of Aquarius. Finding myself as a spiritual ambassador (as a living bridge) between two powerful metaphysical centres of the Great Universal Brotherhood, I began to receive many insights about the purpose, the history, the richness and the uniqueness of both of them. As a result, I entered into a state of great joy, inspiration, ecstasy and enlightenment. The vision continued however and at some stage the metaphysical panorama extended even further. I was able to contemplate the whole Earth as a Living Being, Gaia, with its spiritual centres (chakras) and a very rich and well developed structure of lay-lines of circulating energy which could correspond to the nervous system of the human body. Then other metaphysical centres (chakras) appeared in all their power, majesty and magnificence – the Himalayas, Machu Picchu, Uluru, Caucasus, Kilimanjaro and others. This opened a new appreciation of our planet Earth ─ as a beautiful shining astral planet. I fell on my knees and expressed my deepest gratitude to Heaven for these Divine visions and to the Earth for being our beloved Mother Earth! |
